Oh! Rome is just impressive! Their art and history overwhelmed me and made it difficult for me to leave it. There is so much to see in Rome and it's just impossible to do Rome in a day. I spent three days there and I felt that I saw it's surface only. I must come there again. Oh, the best part about Italy is their men. I must say that their men are the best looking in the world. There is something about Italian men that makes my head turn. Their food is of course good but it wasn't as I had expected though, or maybe I just didn't go to the right places. There is this place next to the Sistine Chapel that had the best pizza, beats Croatia pizza by a little. It's so good. Writing about it makes me hungry now. I should change the topic now, huh? If you like art as much as I do, Rome is your place. It has artwork in every corner of the street. I wondered if people who live there value the artwork as much as I do or do they take it for granted? Hmm….Another thing, Rome is fashion country. I saw like one store that had bad clothes and every other store in Rome sold good quality, up-to-date fashion. The downside about Rome is that it's expensive but if that's not a problem for you, it should be one of the best place to visit.
I also went to Florence for two days and had the best time visiting my David. He was standing so tall and everyone was checking him out. I got two pictures of him and some lady was yelling at me for using flash. I tried to turn it off but my dinky old 1980's camera didn't have that function. I did try, though. Florence is remarkably superb. I really enjoyed my stay in Florence because it's less crowded and touristy. Things are cheaper there than Rome so if you like leather, Florence is your place. The churches in Florence are excellent! It's really elegantly done and carefully carved. Some man took 50 years of his life carvning the two front doors of the Durmo. The Durmo has the largest unsupported dome in the world. I climbed up and saw the best view of Florence. It's so nice up there!
Vatican City
If you didn't know, the Vatican City is the smallest country in the world. Some say it's a state but I really believe that it is their own country. They have their own currency, language (Latin), their own newspaper, their own laws, and their own leader, John Paul II.
Anyhow, since I was a child, I have always wanted to visit the Vatican City and see St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, and of course the Pope. Fortunately, I was able to see it all. Zuleika and I went there early in the morning to get a ticket to see the Pope but unfortunately we were late but somehow we got in. We got a good seat, too. We were pretty close to him. He blessed us all in many languages, one of them being english and he left after two and a half hour.
The Vatican City is definitely a place that everyone should visit if you go to Rome. It's right in the middle of Rome and easily accessible. Take bus 64 and it'll drop you right in front of it. St. Peter's Basilica is the hugest church in the world and it proved itself right because I felt so small when I was walking through it. It has Michelangelo's famous Pieta at the right along with many stone carvings all around the church. It's definitely an intense scene to see. The Sistine Chapel is another remarkable piece of artwork. I've never walked so long to see a Chapel. I think it took me about 1.5 hours to get to the chapel. Along the way were elaborate hallways filled with artwork from famous artists. I wished that I had more time to spend looking instead of walking.
Italy is definitely a favored country. I really enjoyed staying there. If you go, don't forget to try their gelati, it's like ice cream but better. Anyhow…see you Casablanca, Morocco
